SAG-AFTRA Talent Payment

Job Summary

Oversee and manage a talent payment staff of nine to advise and assist clients in all aspects of talent payment services done under a wide variety of collective bargaining agreements, with a strong focus on the SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract.

Diverse responsibilities include driving client services and direct client assistance, with an overview as follows:

  • Report to company president.
  • Manage workflow, oversee client support teams and step in to do direct client work when needed.
  • Take on special projects, if needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with representatives throughout the industry to enhance the resources used to complete the responsibilities.
  • Keep up to date with industry and union rulings, contract expirations and the potential cost implications and other specific matters that concern the client’s business.
  • Develop and implement staff and client communications
  • Work with technical and network support staff to maintain secure business operating systems.
  • Some travel (when safe / post pandemic).

Qualifications

  • Experience working with, and deep knowledge of the SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience
  • Seven (7) plus years’ experience in the commercial advertising or entertainment industry
  • Supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral
  • Excellent end user computer skills with an ability to adapt to and use fast paced technological changes and enhancements
  • Ability to work from home some or all work days
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a part of a team
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong remote / virtual work skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to see the overall scope of any issue

Corporate Law Paralegal Supervisor

HOURS: Monday – Friday, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM

SUMMARY: The Corporate Paralegal Supervisor assists in overseeing the Firm’s Corporate Paralegal Department.  Responsibilities include coordinating assignments and workflow, performing a variety of duties with respect to transactions and other Department initiatives, coordinating and/or providing training, and maintaining direct daily contact with attorneys and support staff.  This position reports to the Director of Paralegal Support

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assigns paralegal support to specific matters, determining scheduling and support requirements while ensuring that all deadlines are met;
  • Maintains record of assignments and calendar of paralegal schedules so that the Department may provide optimum and continuous support to attorneys at all times;
  • Coordinates with other support departments to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of each transaction or project;
  • Creates and maintains training manuals for corporate paralegals;
  • Provides and/or coordinates training regarding all corporate paralegal skills and support applications (includes coordination of seminars and educational gatherings as needed);
  • Assists in analyzing and reporting on paralegals’ time to assess workload, productivity and ability to meet ongoing Firm needs;
  • Assists Director in assessing paralegals’ performance and resolving issues;
  • Assists with entity management and payment of vendor invoices;
  • Provides intermittent overflow support by working directly with attorneys on all phases of corporate transactions, including due diligence, transaction signing, transaction closing and post-closing work.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE;

Knowledge of corporate documents (name, purpose, format); types of corporate transactions (mergers, acquisitions, tender offers (hostile and friendly), IPOs, LBOs, securities offerings, etc.); transaction sequences and what is involved in each phase (pre-transaction research, negotiating sessions, Securities and Exchange Commission filings, closings and post-closing activities); and SEC filing rules and EDGAR filings

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints;
  • Ability to maintain working knowledge of Firm’s practice areas and procedures associated with each practice area;
  • Ability to consistently evaluate and upgrade practice support service and technology;
  • Ability and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as the need arises;
  • Position frequently requires more than 35 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.  Ability and willingness to extend the workday is required; well paid overtime is offered.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required;
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a corporate paralegal or supervisor of corporate paralegals in a major law firm;
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Summary

A well respected Washington, D.C. law firm is actively recruiting for an experienced Paralegal Manager. 

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience managing paralegal staff over multiple locations as well as cultivating an environment for learning and professional growth. 

Preference will be given to those with strong knowledge in the following practice areas: Complex Commercial Litigation, IP, Trademark Prosecution, Bankruptcy, Corporate, Finance, Real Estate, International Trade and Healthcare.

Duties

  • Oversee paralegal team in multiple satellite offices
  • Collaborate with HR to recruit, interview and hire for openings within department
  • Execute performance reviews for new and existing staff providing feedback and areas to improve
  • Cultivate a team environment and handle all employee concerns and/or issues that may arise
  • Manage paralegal compensation approving changes based on merit and promotion within budget
  • Review timesheets and time entry, monitor billable hours and approving leave requests
  • Ensure deadlines are met by monitoring reporting statistics measuring workload, productivity and making re-assignments where needed
  • Spend half-time performing billable work assignments

Required

  • 10+ years litigation paralegal experience 
  • Strong management and supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Paralegal certificate preferred
  • Ability to approach the department from a business perspective balancing cost of operations and performance output
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook 
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work overtime
